Trust In The Era Of AI

Published

on

I recently wrote about the potential impact of Deepfakes.

I pointed out that “these fakes are no longer just still pictures. AI-generated faces today blink naturally. They breathe like real people. They talk using voices cloned from only a few seconds of sound. They show up in video calls. They drop voicemails that sound legit. They pop into news stories that spread worldwide. Fact-checkers do not even get a chance to catch them in time.”

When perfect fakes become trivial to create, trust stops being about individual pieces of content and becomes a question about systems, relationships, and track records.

The mechanism is simple: if AI can fabricate anything convincingly enough, the only stable signal people have left is who’s behind what they’re seeing and hearing.

This isn’t theoretical. Trust in AI has actually declined as adoption has increased. The term “buyer beware” probably needs to be in our minds as we look at any information online, especially content delivered on social media.

A 2025 global study from Melbourne Business School of 48,000 people across 47 countries found that while 66% now use AI regularly, less than half are willing to trust it. Compare that to data from late 2022, just before ChatGPT launched, when trust levels were measurably higher. The pattern is clear: more exposure to AI systems has made people more skeptical, not less.

The Scale of the Problem

This same study reveals that 66% of people rely on AI output without evaluating its accuracy, and 56% report making mistakes in their work because of AI. In the United States specifically, half of all workers admit they use AI tools without knowing whether their employer allows it. Another 44% knowingly use AI improperly at work, and 53% present AI-generated content as their own. These numbers describe a trust crisis in formation, not in theory.

The technology has industrialized deception.

Deepfakes can now mimic any voice, face, or setting at scale and minimal cost. They’ve already been deployed to impersonate political leaders, manipulate voters, and destroy reputations. But the damage goes deeper than individual incidents. Research on deepfakes documents what scholars call the “liar’s dividend” (I must admit I was unaware of this concept, but now I totally get it), in which bad actors dismiss authentic evidence by claiming it’s fake. The effect pushes societies toward blanket cynicism, where nothing can be definitively proven because anything might be fabricated.

Although AI has delivered great advancements in information and content creation, it has also brought us into an era in which skepticism about AI-generated content must drive our conscious interactions with the data we consume at all times.

Sadly, this new level of AI skepticism is on tap to become the norm. And people are going to need to adjust how they work, learn, shop, and play under these new pressures to confront AI fakes and deepfakes they will encounter daily.

Pakistan to Establish Its First Dedicated Council for Digital Businesses

Published

on

The government has decided to establish Pakistan’s first Pakistan Council of Digital Economy as part of its efforts to strengthen the country’s expanding digital sector.

The initiative is aimed at creating an institutional framework to support digital businesses and accelerate the growth of the digital economy.

According to official sources, the Pakistan Digital Authority is preparing to form a separate council for digital businesses, structured on the lines of a chamber of commerce. The proposed council is expected to act as a formal platform representing digital companies operating across different segments of the economy.

The Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate the Pakistan Council of Digital Economy once the initial framework is finalized. The main objective of the council will be to bring digital companies together on a single platform to address common challenges and opportunities within the sector.

The council will facilitate coordination between the government and private digital companies, focusing on consultations related to online business issues, regulatory frameworks, taxation, and policy development. Through this platform, private sector input will be incorporated into decision-making processes related to the digital economy.

Officials said the Pakistan Digital Authority has already held consultations with around 40 private digital companies. The move is intended to ensure greater private sector participation in promoting the digital economy and to create a more supportive environment for digital innovation and investment in Pakistan.

Honor has officially confirmed its new smartphone lineup, the Win series, after months of speculation. The company teased the new brand on its Weibo account by posting a teaser image filled with the word “WIN” and announcing a communication event for the e-sports-focused phones on December 16.

The event’s slogan, “Exceptional Strength, Born to Win,” highlights the performance-first direction of the series.

Honor will use the Win series to replace the Honor GT lineup, which debuted last year. The next device that many expected to launch as the Honor GT 2 will instead arrive under the Win branding. Leaks say the lineup will include two models: the Honor Win and the Honor Win Pro.

Leaks also claim both phones will use a rectangular camera module that carries Win branding and a triple-camera setup. The standard Honor Win is rumored to launch in beige, black, white, and cyan. The Win Pro is expected to add a built-in cooling component aimed at improving thermals to support longer gaming sessions.

Expected Specs

On the hardware side, the Honor Win is expected to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite, while the Win Pro may use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Both phones are tipped to feature a 1.5K OLED display, a 50MP main camera, and an enormous 8,500 mAh battery with 100W fast charging.

With the launch event scheduled for tomorrow, Honor is framing the Win series as its new performance-focused line for mobile gaming and high-performance users, marking the end of the GT era and the start of a new chapter for the brand.
