Grok is Still Undressing People After Facing Bans, Just Not Women

Published

on

A new investigation by The Verge has found that xAI’s chatbot Grok continues to generate sexualized images of real people, despite claims from Elon Musk that the system no longer produces such content without consent.

The outlet reported that Grok appears to have stopped removing clothing from images of women in some cases, but the same restrictions do not consistently apply to men.

How It Was Tested

A reporter conducted tests by uploading images of himself and asking Grok to digitally remove clothing. According to the report, the chatbot performed the task across multiple platforms, including the Grok app, the chatbot interface on X, and the standalone Grok website.

The website did not require an account to edit images, the reporter said.

xAI recently said it had taken steps to prevent Grok from editing images of real people in revealing clothing, such as bikinis. The reporter said those safeguards did not prevent the system from generating altered images showing him in various bikinis, fetish-style clothing, and sexualized poses.

The report also said Grok generated a “naked companion” image and produced genitalia that was not explicitly requested, visible through mesh-style clothing. The reporter said Grok rarely refused prompts, although some requests resulted in blurred images.

Millions of Nude Images

The controversy began weeks earlier, when Grok was found to have generated millions of sexualized images over an 11-day period. The report said this included nonconsensual deepfakes of real people and more than 23,000 sexualized images of children.

These findings prompted investigations in California and Europe. During that period, X was banned in Indonesia and Malaysia, although Indonesia has since lifted its restriction.

Weak Safeguards

X has said it implemented technological measures to limit the creation of deepfakes and sexualized images. The Verge reported that those measures block some direct methods but can still be bypassed through modified or indirect prompts.

The strong sales performance of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 has encouraged competitors to enter the compact vlogging camera segment.

Insta360 has now introduced a teaser for its upcoming Luna camera, positioning it as a direct competitor to DJI’s Osmo Pocket lineup.

The announcement follows earlier confirmation from vivo that it is developing its own vlogging camera.

Dual Cameras With Telephoto Capability

Insta360 Luna will feature two cameras, similar to the expected design of the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 Pro.

One of the lenses will be a telephoto lens. If the Luna launches before DJI’s next-generation model, it will become the first vlogging camera in this category to offer telephoto functionality.

Launch Timeline

Insta360 has confirmed that the Luna will be released before the end of June.

At an event in China, Insta360 founder JK Liu said the Luna “won’t just be another Pocket,” indicating that the device will introduce unique features to differentiate it from existing competitors.

Further specifications and pricing details have not yet been disclosed.
