After Multiple Delays, GTA 6 Release Date Finally Holds
Take-Two Interactive confirmed in its latest earnings announcement that Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto VI remains on track for release on November 19, 2026.
The company said there is no change to the current timeline, maintaining the release window following previous schedule adjustments.
GTA VI was initially scheduled for release in Fall 2025 before being moved to May 26, 2026. The date was later shifted again to November 19, 2026.
Rockstar said it required additional development time to improve the quality of the game.
Take-Two Chief Executive Strauss Zelnick told IGN that marketing efforts for GTA VI will begin in earnest this summer.
Zelnick said that moving closer to marketing milestones reflects a high level of confidence in the game’s ability to meet its current release date.
Rockstar has a history of delaying major releases, and multiple delays for GTA VI were not unexpected. However, another public delay would place the game in a rare category, as the studio has not historically postponed a title twice after publicly announcing new dates.
The game is launching amid strong market expectations, with projections suggesting it could sell 40 million copies and generate $3 billion in revenue during its first year. Industry analysts have also noted that even strong performance from GTA VI would not address broader challenges facing the video game sector.
GTA V and RDR 2 Sales Numbers
In the same earnings report, Take-Two said Grand Theft Auto V sold an additional 5 million copies, bringing its total to 225 million units sold.
Red Dead Redemption II added another 3 million units, raising its lifetime sales to 82 million copies since its launch in October 2018.
