PTA Orders Full Cybersecurity Audit of Its Digital Systems
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has initiated the process to conduct a comprehensive cybersecurity audit and Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) of its digital infrastructure.
PTA, which oversees critical regulatory platforms, communication systems, databases, and public service portals, said the move is aimed at further strengthening the security and resilience of its IT and communication ecosystem.
The authority stated that maintaining strict cybersecurity standards is essential to ensure uninterrupted and secure services. In response to the growing global trend of cyber-attacks, data breaches, and infiltration attempts, PTA has decided to hire a qualified and accredited cybersecurity firm to independently assess its systems and identify potential weaknesses.
According to the Expression of Interest (EOI) issued by PTA, the selected firm will conduct a detailed cybersecurity audit covering network infrastructure, applications, databases, cloud or hybrid environments, and internal security policies and procedures. The audit will focus on identifying technical and procedural vulnerabilities, evaluating how they could be exploited, and recommending both short-term and long-term corrective measures.
The scope of work also includes external and internal penetration testing based on internationally recognized standards. In addition, the firm will review security controls, access management practices, and incident response mechanisms.
PTA said it will carry out follow-up verification after identified vulnerabilities are addressed to confirm that issues have been resolved and to ensure sustained improvements in cyber resilience.
The authority emphasized strict confidentiality requirements, warning that any data breach or unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information will be treated as a serious violation. PTA added that only firms meeting the defined eligibility and compliance criteria will be shortlisted for the next stage of the procurement process.
