Google Can Now Delete Fake Nudes of You Created With AI

Published

on

Now that it’s easier than ever to create nsfw images of anyone using AI, Google has launched a new tool designed to help users remove non-consensual explicit images from Search results. It not only applies to deepfakes but also to real explicit images posted without consent.

While the tool does not prevent such content from being published online, it allows individuals to select an image in Search and submit a request for its deletion.

How the Removal Works

Users can click the three-dot menu next to an image in Search results and select “remove result.” From there, they can choose the option stating that the image shows a sexual image of them.

Other available options include reporting that the image shows a person under 18 or contains personal information. If users select the sexual image option, they will be asked whether the image is real or a deepfake. There is also an option to submit multiple images in one request.

Google said users will immediately receive links to emotional and legal support organizations after submitting a request. The company also allows users to opt into safeguards that filter out similar results in Search. However, the images may remain visible to other users if they are not reported.

The feature is expected to roll out to most countries over the coming days.

Expanded “Results About You” Hub

Users can track removal requests through Google’s “Results about you” hub. To use the tool, individuals must provide personal contact information and government identification numbers.

The hub previously monitored whether personal details appeared in Search results. With this update, it will also scan for social security numbers, driver’s license details, and passport information.

Google said it will notify users if such sensitive information appears in Search results and provide options to request removal.

Updates to the “Results about you” hub will begin rolling out to users in the United States in the coming days.

Dark Web Reports Discontinued

The update comes as Google shuts down its dark web reporting feature, which previously alerted users if their name, phone number, or email address appeared online, often due to data breaches.

Google stated that the feature did not effectively help users take the next steps to address the issue. The company indicated that the new tools are intended to provide clearer removal actions.
