LG’s New xboom Earbuds Can Clean Themselves With UV Light

Published

on

LG has expanded its xboom audio lineup in collaboration with nine-time Grammy winner will.i.am. The company has introduced two new true wireless models, the LG xboom Buds Plus and the LG xboom Buds Lite.

Both models are part of the “xboom by will.i.am” lineup, with will.i.am involved in tuning and shaping the sound profile. The earbuds were first released in South Korea in September 2025 and are now expanding to additional markets. LG showcased the new products at the FYI Visionaries event.

According to LG, the earbuds are tuned to deliver balanced and warm tones that reflect will.i.am’s sound preferences.

LG xboom Buds Plus

The Buds Plus represent the most advanced option in the lineup. They include a UVnano+ charging case that uses UV-C light to reduce bacteria on the earbud speaker mesh. Independent testing indicates that the UVnano system eliminates 99.9 percent of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Klebsiella pneumoniae within ten minutes when the case is connected to a power source. Users can configure the UV function to activate automatically when the earbuds are placed inside the case and the lid is closed.

Active Noise Cancellation is supported by a three-microphone system designed to improve noise detection and reduction. With ANC disabled, the earbuds deliver up to 10 hours of continuous playback. The charging case provides an additional 20 hours, bringing the total playback to up to 30 hours. Battery performance may vary depending on usage.

The Buds Plus support 3D Spatial Audio and multi-point connectivity, allowing users to switch between devices without disconnecting. Customizable EQ settings are also available.

The earbuds carry an IPX4 rating under IEC 60529 standards, meaning they are resistant to water splashes. They must be dried before use and should not be charged while wet. The charging case does not carry an IPX4 rating.

A built-in Bluetooth transmitter allows wireless connection to devices with a headphone jack, such as in-flight entertainment systems or treadmills. Compatibility depends on the device.

LG xboom Buds Lite

The Buds Lite emphasize portability with a compact and lightweight design. The earbuds provide up to 11.5 hours of continuous playback. With the charging case, total playback reaches up to 35 hours when ANC is turned off. Actual battery life depends on usage conditions.

The Buds Lite uses a single microphone to monitor ambient noise, offering a different ANC experience compared to the three-microphone system used in the Buds Plus. They also include customizable EQ settings.

Like the Buds Plus, the Buds Lite carry an IPX4 rating for splash resistance.

Pricing

The LG xboom Buds Plus are priced at $179.99, and the Lite version is going for  $69.99.  Both earbuds are available through retail websites globally.
