Apple is Quietly Exploring a New Style of Foldable iPhone

Published

on

Apple is exploring a smaller, square, clamshell-style foldable phone that could follow its first foldable iPhone, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Gurman reported that the potential device remains under consideration and is not guaranteed to reach the market. He added that Apple is evaluating whether it can compete in the foldable phone segment, which currently includes models such as Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Motorola’s Razr foldable.

The report also said Apple appears confident about the prospects of its first foldable iPhone, which is rumored to launch later this year, and is preparing follow-up plans to address potential demand.

This is not the first indication of Apple’s interest in a clamshell foldable design. A previous report from The Information said the company developed prototypes using this form factor.

Gurman’s Power On newsletter has also mentioned that Apple is considering a larger foldable device that opens like a book. In earlier reports, Gurman said Apple explored a foldable closer in size to an iPad.

According to Gurman, Apple encountered development challenges with the larger model and may delay any potential release until 2029.
