Google has announced what it describes as a major update to the Photo to video feature in Google Photos, giving users more control over how still images are turned into short videos.

The update introduces text prompts for video generation, allowing users aged 18 and older to describe the type of motion, visual style, or effect they want applied to an image. Users can edit and refine these prompts to adjust the final result.

Guided Suggestions

With the new update, users can enter custom text prompts to guide how a photo is animated. This adds a layer of creative control that was not previously available in the feature.

For users who are unsure what to type, Google is also adding prompt suggestions that can be tapped for quick inspiration. In addition, the existing options, Subtle Movement and I’m Feeling Lucky, remain available for one-tap video generation.

Audio Support Added

Google said that videos created from photos may now include audio by default. This applies whether users rely on Google’s built-in templates or create videos using custom text prompts. The company said the addition of audio is intended to enhance the final video output.

The updated Photo to video feature is rolling out as part of Google Photos, with Google positioning it as a way to make image-based videos more dynamic and customizable.
