Is This The Last iPhone Update For Those Refusing iOS 26.2?
Updated Dec. 12 with more details of iOS 18.7.3 in the light of the release of iOS 26.2.
On Friday, Dec. 12, Apple released the latest software for the iPhone, iOS 26.2. Almost unprecedentedly, it was released on a Friday instead of the usual Moday or Tuesday — Apple was determined not to be late as many had predicted it would be, it seems. But for users who aren’t quite ready to more to the new software cycle, Apple is also preparing an alternative, iOS 18.7.3. Here’s what it means and why it is likely to be the last chance to avoid iOS 26 without compromising your iPhone.

When Apple launched iOS 26 in September, it also released an iOS 18 update so those who wanted to let the all-new software cycle settle in could still stay up to date with bug fixes and security.
This trick was repeated when the next two updates, iOS 26.0.1 and iOS 26.1 appeared. But many had thought that the most recent iOS 18 version, iOS 18.7.2, would be the last that Apple would provide to those with iPhones capable of running the new cycle of software.
It then became apparent that Apple was working on another iOS 18 update, iOS 18.7.3. Of course, it was pointed out, this could be released only for iPhones that couldn’t support iOS 26. There are three phones that are compatible with iOS 18 but not iOS 26: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.
However, beta testers have now reported that iOS 18.7.3 is running on iPhones that are compatible with the latest software, too.
Unless something major changes, this means that when the general release comes, it will offer another chance — probably the last chance if Apple follows the format of previous years — for iPhone users to hold off on iOS 26.
If you’re not a fan of the new Liquid Glass design, for instance, you may want to cleave to iOS 18 for that big longer, though it’s true that new features and better security await in the iOS 26. The next iOS 26 release, iOS 26.2, is imminent, most likely on Monday, Dec. 15.
So, when will iOS 18.7.3 be available? Probably on or around the same day, but note that the last iOS 18 update came 72 hours after the most recent iOS 26 update.
Now that iOS 26.2 is out, I can confirm that iOS 18.7.3 has not yet been released. But it’s definitely coming: if you choose public beta or developer beta updates, you will see iOS 18.7.3 is available for either set-up. That said, it’s likely only a matter of days away until the general release if you want to wait for that.
On my iPhone 16e, the public beta weighs in as a download of around 7GB, which is hefty, and noticeably bigger than iOS 26.2. Your mileage may vary, though this size update is coming from iOS 18.7.2, so it’s not likely to be much smaller.
More details as they emerge.

Honor’s New Gaming Phones Confirmed to Launch Very Soon
Honor has officially confirmed its new smartphone lineup, the Win series, after months of speculation. The company teased the new brand on its Weibo account by posting a teaser image filled with the word “WIN” and announcing a communication event for the e-sports-focused phones on December 16.
The event’s slogan, “Exceptional Strength, Born to Win,” highlights the performance-first direction of the series.

Honor will use the Win series to replace the Honor GT lineup, which debuted last year. The next device that many expected to launch as the Honor GT 2 will instead arrive under the Win branding. Leaks say the lineup will include two models: the Honor Win and the Honor Win Pro.
Leaks also claim both phones will use a rectangular camera module that carries Win branding and a triple-camera setup. The standard Honor Win is rumored to launch in beige, black, white, and cyan. The Win Pro is expected to add a built-in cooling component aimed at improving thermals to support longer gaming sessions.
Expected Specs
On the hardware side, the Honor Win is expected to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite, while the Win Pro may use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Both phones are tipped to feature a 1.5K OLED display, a 50MP main camera, and an enormous 8,500 mAh battery with 100W fast charging.
With the launch event scheduled for tomorrow, Honor is framing the Win series as its new performance-focused line for mobile gaming and high-performance users, marking the end of the GT era and the start of a new chapter for the brand.

Report Claims Apple Is Avoiding Face ID to Keep Foldable iPhone Thin
Rumors about Apple’s foldable phone continue to build, even though the device is still not official. A steady flow of leaks suggests Apple is testing hardware that could bring a foldable iPhone to market.
The latest claim centers on Touch ID, a feature Apple has not used on an iPhone in years.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS), Apple’s wide foldable phone will skip 3D Face ID. Instead, it may use a side-mounted Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

The leak offers a simple reason for the change. The hardware required for 3D face scanning takes up space, and Apple is said to be trying to keep the foldable as thin as possible.
The same leak also claims Apple is avoiding 3D ultrasonic fingerprint technology for the same space-related reason.
The leak suggests Apple is focusing heavily on hardware design. DCS describes the hinge as “very strong,” a key area for foldable durability.
The current engineering prototype is said to include:
- A 7.58-inch foldable inner display with an under-display front camera
- A 5.25-inch outer screen with a punch-hole camera cutout
- A 48MP dual-camera setup on the back
The “wide” form factor is described as something closer to a small tablet when unfolded. The device is expected to arrive next year. The leak suggests it could inject fresh interest into a foldable market that some now view as repetitive.
The leak also says Samsung is evaluating a similar wide foldable design. However, DCS adds that the first large horizontal wide foldable phone may come from a Chinese brand, not Apple or Samsung.
